How to care for a coconut soap bar
Help a soap bar last longer by keeping it clean, letting it dry and using a well-draining dish.
Water is useful during washing—not during storage
A soap bar dissolves a little every time it becomes wet. If it sits in a puddle between uses, the outer layer stays soft and more soap disappears than you need for washing.
A dish with raised ridges or drainage holes lets air move around the bar and gives water somewhere to go.
Lather with clean hands
Wet the bar and hands, create lather, then return the bar to its dish rather than holding it under running water for the entire wash. Rinse visible dirt or hair from the surface before putting it away.
For body use, you can lather the bar in your hands first. This gives better control than rubbing hard on sensitive skin.
Give it air and space
Keep the dish outside the direct shower stream. If several people use different bars, leave space between them so they do not stick together and can dry on all sides.
For travel, let the bar dry before placing it in a case. Open the case again at your destination instead of leaving a damp bar sealed for days.
Know when to stop using it
Stop if the soap causes persistent stinging, redness or itching. Do not use it on broken skin, and avoid sharing a personal bar during an active skin infection.
As the bar becomes small, place it in a soap saver or press it onto a new wet bar rather than letting fragments clog the drain.
